Eye candy of the month
Many of our readers and customers may see this month’s Eye Candy Girl and think she looks familiar. That’s because she is. Hannah McKnight and Glamour Boutique go way back as she has modeled for us over the years and in fact, you’ll still find her photos on our site. When Hannah volunteered to be an Eye Candy Girl, we were more than happy to oblige.
Hi Hannah. We are so glad to have you back with us for this month’s Eye Candy. I am sure our readers are just as excited to get to know you as we are. Let’s start off by telling everyone where are you from?
Thanks! I’m excited to be an Eye Candy Girl! I am from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I am lucky to be in such a (mostly) liberal city. It’s a very progressive city that has a lot of resources and support for our community. I was nervous the first few times I went out but I have found most people are accepting. Plus I love shopping!
When did you first start dressing and how did it come about?
I started dressing when I was young. Very young. I remember trying on a pair of my mom’s heels when I was around four years old. Like most of us, as my dressing progressed as I got older. My teen years were really the start of expanding my wardrobe and trying out new designs and clothes, I have always been drawn to women’s clothing, especially heels and lingerie. As I got older my wardrobe got bigger and bolder and I started wearing bright colors. I used to want to blend in but I am not usually able to do that so I decided if I am going to stand out I may as well look amazing and wear whatever I want.
How did you come up with your Femme name?
The word “onnagata ” is the Japanese word for when a man plays a woman’s role in kabuki style theater. ‘Onna’ sounds like ‘ana’ and “Hannah” rhymes a little with “ana” and so Hannah McKnight was born.
How often do you dress?
I underdress each day and will usually wear girl jeans in boy mode. Nightgowns each night, too. I dress from head to heels about twice a month. I started a support/social group for transwomen called The MN T-Girls and once a month we hit the town and will shop, have dinner, go to the theater or museums. It’s a fun excuse to dress up and look our best.
Are you married/in a relationship? If yes, are you able to share your female self with your partner?
Yes, I am married to an amazing woman. We share everything. My wife taught me makeup, helped me pick out my first wig and was, and is, essential to helping me build my wardrobe and picking out clothes. Matching a skirt to a top was something I struggled with early on, and selecting the right accessories wasn’t always easy but her help made things so much easier.
What are some of your favorite outfits/fashions?
I love mini-dresses! Bodycon and peplum styles are some of my favorites. I tend to wear a lot of bright colors or prints and I tend to favor styles that allow me to show off my legs. I usually will wear dresses as opposed to skirts I like dressing in leather dresses and leather skirts and I am glad it’s coming back into fashion. Dressing in Minnesota can often mean I am at the mercy of our insane weather so I need to have a versatile wardrobe that can work in below freezing temperatures as well as days that break the 100-degree mark.
Stockings or pantyhose?
Stockings! But I have to admit pantyhose are more practical. I wear stockings, tights or pantyhose every time I go out. I like how they will even out my skin tone. I work hard to have shapely legs and I am not ashamed to admit I dress to show them off. There’s nothing quite like black stockings and a cute dress. Fishnets and leather is also a pretty killer outfit, too!
Heels or flats?
Stilettos or heels! What are flats? 😉 I own dozens of heels from five-inch stilettos to one-inch pumps. I have shoes that include everything from patent red heels to polka-dot pumps to silver strappy stilettos to knee-high boots. I am a bit of a shoe addict and I love matching heels to a cute dress. It’s fun to find a perfect dress that goes perfectly with a pair of shoes that I bought a while ago.
Favorite places to go when dressed?
I love museums, book stores, and malls! Shopping in Minnesota is amazing. We have the Mall of America and it’s a wonderful place to spend the day. There’s nothing like the sound of your heels clicking on the floor of a mall. I try to frequent businesses that are supportive of the transgender community as well, whether it’s a lingerie shop or a cafe.
Go to accessories for a night out
I have a lot of accessories and definitely have my favorites depending on my outfit. Necklaces are a must! I like eye-catching necklaces and dangling earrings. Accessories were one item I had some trouble with early on and it took some time before I knew what color accessories would work with different colors and styles.
Who are your female role model(s) and why?
I love Dita Von Teese! I love her darker features and her taste in clothes. She is timeless and stunning. Her love of heels and lingerie is something I can definitely relate to. I also love and admire Laverne Cox for being such a positive and prolific member of the trans community. As our community is in the public spotlight more and more these days we need positive voices that help clarify and explain who we are.
Tell our readers some fun facts about yourself. Do you have any hobbies? What do you like to do in your spare time, either when dressing or not?
I love to read and I am glad to be in a city with so many bookstores. Bookstores are a wonderful and usually very accepting place for me to visit. Minneapolis also has a ton of amazing restaurants which is lucky since I love to eat good food. I love to look at art and there’s nothing quite like spending the day at a museum. I also blog quite often about fashion, activism, and issues that affect our community. I believe that every trans person is a representative of our community and we all need to be positive role models.
Any stories you would like to share about yourself and your journey?
We all can relate to being on a journey. For many of us, that journey started the first time we wanted to wear a dress or panties or a pair of heels. Once that happens there is no going back. Our journey continues as we get older. This is not something we will outgrow. This is not a phase. We are on a journey of finding out who we are. I think my journey ended a long time ago. I never thought I was born in the wrong body or felt I wanted to transition. I am happy with who I am, regardless of the gender I present. I love being able to switch back and forth without committing to one gender for the rest of my life (or even for the day).

Before we go, would you like to send a message to your fellow girls out there?
The world will likely never embrace us in a way we would like or deserve. It’s more important that you love and accept yourself. It’s also important to remember there is no such thing as ‘passing’. There is no standard you have to meet in order to be transgender, to be a girl or to be beautiful. You are not too old, too tall or too anything to wear whatever you want. Dress for yourself, not for anyone else. No one is going to give you permission to be who you are. Only you can do that.
