As we all know, fashion and makeup trends tend to come back around. Where you might cringe at a style choice from the 90’s, the chances are it will re-appear in a similar or the same way, and once again it’s a popular look. We’ve found this has happened with makeup trends just as it has with fashion, so we’re here to give you the down-low on what makeup trends are making an appearance for this summer. Some we love, others we’re not so sure about, but we’d love to know which styles you’ve tried and which ones you’re loving for summer 2022.
Makeup trends for 2022
A lighter alternative to our beloved cat eye liner or fox eye makeup, the kitten eyeliner is a fab summer makeup trend. Still using the same technique as a cat eye, you create the look using a lighter eyeliner color such as brown or gold, basically anything that isn’t black. You could even use your favorite eyeshadow color to create a cutesy kitten eye. Match with laminated or soap brows and you’re ready to hit the rooftop bars looking fabulous!
Fresh, delicate skin
We’re not sure when this hasn’t been a makeup trend. There’s something delightful about clear, fresh skin that’s got a subtle glow. We appreciate this is harder to achieve for crossdressers as you’re in need of more product to cover up a 5 o’clock shadow, but with the right products, and the right tools, you’ve got a great chance of achieving it.
Negative space eyeshadow
We’re loving this summer makeup trend! It’s where you leave some space on your eyelid without product, and it can look pretty striking when done correctly. You could use monochrome colors, as these are also popular for this summer, and it’s best achieved with a pencil to allow for extra precision.
Returning straight out of the noughties, bronzed skin is back, and we couldn’t be happier. You can use a fake tanner to help enhance your bronzed look, but we recommend using a powder and or a liquid bronzer – but don’t forget to blend well. You want to avoid any tide lines or patchy areas! A kabuki brush is ideal for blending out powders for a flawless finish.
Another old-school makeup trend that we’re not 100% sold on yet is thin eyebrows. The likes of Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguillera and Cameron Diaz rocked this look back in the 90s, but enter Cara Delavigne and Lilly Collins and heavy, eye-catching eyebrows are all we can talk about. It would seem we’re slowing travelling back in time, with celebs such as Bella Hadid, Rhianna and Kylie Jenner leading the way on the skinny brow front. If you’re not keen on plucking your own eyebrows to create this look, you can use makeup to hide some of the hairs.
Bright, bold lips
We’re excited about this summer 2022 makeup trend. We love being able to express ourselves through bright and bold colors and what better place for them than the lips? Pick out your favorite red, make sure you have the perfect makeup tools to apply your color neatly, and you’re good to go! Summer makeup never looked so good.
