Ask Katie: How do I Dress Fem in Summer and Not Show Too Much Skin?

In this article, we’ll cover:

  • Summer outfits with more coverage
  • Light & comfortable styling ideas
  • Confidence

Dear Kelly,

You are definitely not the only person who feels this way during summer.

A lot of people assume feminine summer outfits only work if you are showing lots of skin or have completely smooth legs and arms. Honestly, that is mostly pressure from social media and advertising. Real life is very different. You can absolutely dress feminine in summer without feeling exposed or uncomfortable. The easiest place to start is with lighter fabrics instead of less fabric.

Maxi dresses are great for this. They keep your legs covered but still feel cool and airy in hot weather. Flowy skirts work the same way, especially in soft materials that move nicely when you walk. They feel feminine without needing to show loads of skin.

For your arms, loose layers help a lot. Lightweight kimonos, oversized shirts worn open, or thin cardigans can give you coverage without making you overheat. They also make an outfit look more styled and put together. You can also look for tops with flutter sleeves, puff sleeves, or loose sleeves built into the design. They give coverage while still feeling soft and feminine.

Honestly though, femininity usually comes from the full outfit rather than one specific thing. A cute bag, soft colours, jewellery, sandals, pretty nails, or even the way fabrics move can completely change the feel of an outfit. People notice the overall look far more than whether your arms or legs are perfectly shaved. And truthfully, most people are paying far less attention to body hair than we think they are.

The biggest difference is usually confidence and comfort. If you feel relaxed in what you are wearing, it shows. If you feel like you are constantly hiding yourself, that shows too. So do not force yourself into tiny outfits just because summer fashion tells you to. There are plenty of feminine summer looks that are elegant, soft, and covered at the same time. Some of the prettiest summer outfits are actually the floaty, relaxed ones.

Build your wardrobe around what makes you feel comfortable first. You deserve to feel cute without feeling stressed every time you leave the house.

With love,

Katie
