These Platform Mary Jane shoes are a high-fashion version of the original ‘Mary Janes’ made famous by their first appearance in the ‘Buster Brown’ comic strip at the turn of the last century and worn by the character of the same name, based on the author’s daughter. The original Mary Jane’s were a flat shoe and very practical for children. This version is much more up to date and an adult version with a distinct edgy appearance given its tall six-inch stiletto heel.
Listed in ladies sizes. Men ADD 1.5 to 2 sizes for correct fit.
The original child’s version of the shoe was popular though to the 1960s and although still available is not the staple it once was for young children. I can remember wearing them as a young child in the 1960’s. Girls tended to wear with white ankle socks or tights and us boys wore them with our regulation school uniform ankle or knee socks!
Although the market for children has shrunk the shoe keeps re-inventing itself with the help of fashion designer’s over the years. They were first revived with the ‘Punk’ era and to this day top labels like Jimmy Choo keep introducing more and more adult versions. Our Platform Mary Jane shoes have a tall 6-inch heel and a 13/4 inch platform which makes them easier to walk in, along with the signature cross strap and buckle closure. Wear with short skirts, short dresses, and even shorts or pants.
