One of the common email and phone queries we receive is regarding the self-adhesive breast form choices on the market today especially the 2 leading brands: Aphrodite Breast Forms and those from the Real Breast company. It’s no surprise we get so many questions and requests for information since they are so pricey; people obviously need more time and information to make an informed purchasing decision to be sure these are the right model for their dressing needs. With prices starting at $479.95 these specialist self adhesive breast forms are more than double the price of a very good quality standard gel silicone, mastectomy breast form. That kind of purchasing consideration needs a little more information.
Aphrodite Breast Forms Versus The Real Breast, which is rated higher?
UPDATE March 2020: Real Breast has halted production since 2019 and we await their return. We now have a worthy alternative in the Custom Crossdresser Breast Forms with up to 24 skin color choices and 8 nipple choices. We are collecting feedback data on this new model and will update this article in the coming months.
We are also asked ‘which one of the 2 models is better?’ and that’s not easy to answer since they both have clear strengths over the other. We like to clearly outline the strengths of each model so that a prospective buyer can then accurately gauge suitability. There’s no doubting both the Real Breast forms and the Aphrodites are the next generation of breast form and you only have to look around to see the ‘copies’ that other manufacturers have been trying to make to gauge their success. For the record, none of the alternative copies come close – we know as we have been sent samples. The copies are either way too hard or their appearance is nowhere near as convincing.
We spent some hours going over the customer reviews we have received for both these products and combined that with the feedback we receive from customers having a fitting for the products here in our New Jersey showroom store. As we are merely distributors we feel we can give honest, impartial advice based on our customer -feedback and our own expertise in matching products to customer needs. Please read on for our conclusions.
With Aphrodites starting at $479.95 a pair and the Real Breast forms starting at $750 a pair what are the features that make these breast forms so much better that the more common gel silicone forms on the market and why would you consider them?
APPEARANCE: The big selling point of both of these breast forms is their more life-like appearance compared to the more standard gel silicone forms. Neither the Aphrodite breast forms or the Real Breast forms have the traditional plastic skin outer protecting the inner silicone gel. Both are made with a new silicone compound that do not require the plastic outer protective skin. These newer compounds look more flesh like. They have none of the plastic sheen/shine that traditional forms do and the details of the areola and nipple is so much more life-like. Furthermore, these silicones can safely be colored with makeup should blending be required on the edges. The Real Breast also has a premium airbrush option where for $125 they will match your skin exactly complete with any veins, moles etc – it really is incredible the detail. Coupled with it’s vanishing edge, which when applied properly really gives a high-end finish to the total look.
Verdict: Real Breast with Airbrush 9/10, Aphrodites 8/10
ATTACHMENT: Both the Real Breast and the Aphrodite have a self-adhesive quality built in to the chest facing side. Whilst they cannot fully support the breast form so that you can go topless they do keep the forms attached with the use of a regular (non-pocket) bra and so do feel more a part of you than standard forms. That said the use of tapes or breast form adhesive with more traditional forms achieves the same effect. For topless wear both of these models will need the addition of a good quality adhesive like Hollister spray adhesive. One advantage the Aphrodite does have over the Real Breast is it is very quick and easy to attach. However, the Real Breast has its ‘Vanishing Edge’ where the edge of the forms becomes so thin and transparent that you achieve an almost seamless blend with the chest. Whilst the effect is incredibly realistic it takes a good amount of time and practice to apply the vanishing edge without wrinkles. For this reason we think the Aphrodite wins out here.
Verdict: Aphrodites 8/10, Real Breast 7/10
SOFTNESS/FEEL: There is no doubt that both of these products have a more realistic touch/feel than the more traditional plastic skinned breast forms we are used to. Traditional forms have a very smooth and plastic touch but they are with the higher end silicones very soft especially when warmed up. Both the Aphrodites and Real Breast have a more realistic touch to the skin’s surface in that they have a nice smooth velvety texture more like real flesh. When pressed lightly, they ‘give’ more like real skin too. In the very early days some of the reviews for Aphrodites some commented on how firm they were compared to regular gel silicone forms but this was fixed and now we think they have developed the compound to a near perfect consistency. Some of our customers prefer super-soft forms only achieved with gel silicone. Whilst neither the Aphrodite or the Real Breast are as soft as the softest gel silicone’s we do feel the consistency they now produce is as close to real flesh as you can get.
Verdict: Aphrodites 8/10, Real Breast 8/10
SHAPE/FIT: Here is one of the factors where the 2 are quite distinct. The Aphrodite is an Asymmetrical shape and so has a distinct left and right breast form where the outer edge is longer and blends towards the underarm. Rather than being concave the Aphrodite is contoured which gives a very pleasing fit and appearance on most chest types and is quite realisticly proportioned being not too ‘busty’. The Real Breast on the other hand is more concave at the back and has the more natural female shape that ‘droops’ but can tend to be a little more busty so be careful of the size you choose. Really the shape is down to personal preference – we know as many girls that love the asymmetrical shape as we do those who love a breast form with a natural droop. As a deciding factor we would say if going topless/naked then the Real Breast shades it but if dressing and looking passable when dressed then the Aphrodites work well so for this reason we think the Aphrodites has the edge.
Verdict: Aphrodites 9/10, Real Breast 8/10
VALUE FOR MONEY: Both of these models are two of the latest innovations on the market. There are poorer copies out there and then there are more affordable traditional breast forms with adhesive pads like the Transform Premiere breast forms that are a mix of a traditional form and these new style forms. There are of course also the traditional forms that can be used with spray adhesive or adhesive tapes for considerably less cost bu they have none of the advantages with regards the realistic visual appearance. Overall we think the Aphrodites are pretty good value given that they are not a mass-produced prosthesis but a hand-crafted form. Especially now that they have the softness corrected from the original release they are a great product and if looking to push the envelope regards realism then are good value. The Real Breast are exquisite regards appearance but they are difficult to apply with the vanishing edge and so require patience and great care by the wearer. Given the difficulty to apply then we do feel the pricing is a little extreme especially when you consider the Air Brushing details work is an add-on cost.
Verdict: Aphrodites 8/10, Real Breast 7/10
CONCLUSION: Our study shows (and the sales of each would bear this out) that the Aphrodites are currently winning the battle for the high-end next-generation prosthetics. Whilst price is certainly a factor we do hear from customers that have bought both over time that the Aphrodites are so much easier to use on a day to day basis versus the difficult to apply but killer looks of the Real Breast. We know customers who use their Real Breast for special occasions but for everyday it’s the Aphrodites they reach for just for the convenience alone.
