Crossdresser Tips: How To Dress Slimmer

2020/2021 were tough years. The pandemic changed many of our lives tenfold, and one of the side effects was that many of us gained a few pounds. There’s nothing wrong with that, but you may be in a position where you need to re-find your confidence, and learning how to dress a little slimmer can help you do that. Finding flattering crossdressing clothing can work wonders for your confidence, so we want to help.

If you’re not too keen on hitting the gym or cutting calories (we don’t blame you!), there are some simple style tips out there that can help to make you feel more confident, and who doesn’t love to step out feeling fabulous?

Make the waist slimmer for an hourglass figure

Tip number one for how to dress to look slimmer is around creating the illusion of a larger waist-to-hip ratio. In our opinion, it’s the perfect place to start if you want to dress slimmer. By reducing your waist, you create more of an hourglass figure and therefore showcase a beautifully feminine shape. You can reduce the waist with shapers, cinchers or corsets so that you will then lead with the bust/chest which instantly makes you look slimmer. You can increase the effect by ensuring you have a proportional bust by wearing breast forms and/or padding the hip area. This may sound counter-intuitive by adding bulk to the hips but it actually makes the waist look narrower and the overall effect is a slimmer silhouette.

Wear high-waisted, flared-skirt dresses

If your natural body shape includes a protruding belly and you don’t want the extra layer of a corset, you may be wondering what you could do to help yourself appear a little slimmer. Wearing flared dresses (otherwise known as ‘skater’ or ’empire style’ dresses) are drawn in either under the bust or at the slimmest part of your waist, meaning the materials tends to ‘skate’ over your midriff which can help to hide a larger tummy. Make sure to include breast forms to emulate a more realistic feminine figure. If you have your heart set on a skirt, then a skater skirt is a good option, or even a pencil skirt with a flowy top can be quite slimming. Pants, jeans and leggings ideally need to be high-waisted to get that slimming effect.

Choose darker colors

One way of creating a slimming effect is to opt for darker colors. It may sound a little boring if you like colored clothing, but black is timeless and does help to hide any lumps and bumps you’re not so keen on. You can always use accessories to add a bit of color and interest to the overall look if you like. And of course, this is just our advice, if you love wearing bright colors then you go for it!

Add height by wearing heels

Even adding a 2” or 3” heeled pump can do wonders to make your legs look slimmer and more shapely, especially when wearing dresses and skirts. Pointed-toe pumps and sandals/open-toes make the leg look longer.

Accentuate the waist

Belts are a great way to accentuate an hourglass figure and help you appear slimmer. A belt strategically placed at or even better, just above the waistline will suddenly define a more slick, female silhouette. Belts only need to be small – there is no need to use oversize belts when trying to look slimmer.

Wear the correct size in clothes

This is quite an important one if you’re aiming to use clothes to look slimmer. Wearing clothes that are too big can actually make you look bigger, and on the other side, wearing clothes a size or two smaller won’t help you to appear slimmer either. From our experience, wearing clothes too small can in fact highlight any areas you’re insecure about. It’s good to note that this also applies to bras and undergarments as much as it does dresses, skirts, and tops.  The simple tip here is to know your correct size in clothes. If you don’t know about it, email or call us and we’d be more than happy to help you.

Choose your stripes and prints wisely

On some bodies (but not all), horizontal stripes can make your body look broader, whereas vertical stripes may be a more flattering choice. This is because they elongate the body. For the best effect, give narrow stripes a go compared to thicker stripes. Why not try a vertical stripe pattern dress with a v-neck?

Good posture

Our last how to dress slimmer tip is good posture. Most modern-day people (both men and women) have less than perfect posture. Wearing a cincher or corset can actually be beneficial as it places the spine in this natural alignment. Aside from that, keep your shoulders back and relaxed and firm up the stomach muscles. You are now standing taller than you do in your natural male attire and so already have a slimmer silhouette.

If you strategically combine some or all of these tips, you’re sure to command a slimmer silhouette and re-envigorate your confidence! Choose the easiest one’s which will help your body shape. We hope you’ve found our tips helpful!
