Binge Worthy Shows, Movies and Documentaries to Quarantine With

With everything going on right now, most of us are at home. All this extra time at home is a great time to catch up on movies and tv shows that we’ve missed. Binging endless hours of tv shows is a great way to get your mind off everything and enjoy some great stuff that relates to our community. Here are our suggestions and what we are watching.

Our top binge-worthy shows

RuPauls Drag Race – When you talk about a modern classic for us girls, RuPauls Drag Race is at the top of the list. This competition show has drag queens from all over looking to become America’s Next Drag Superstar. Between the fabulous outfits and the equally fabulous drama, it’s a must watch. If you don’t already know, Season 12 is currently airing on VH1 and LOGO. You can catch up with the new season On Demand with new episodes on Fridays at 8pm. If you’re looking to binge past seasons you may have missed or like to see again, Amazon Prime has you covered.

Pose – Set in 1980’s New York, Pose centers around stories during the rise of the luxury culture and the ball scene. What makes Pose so groundbreaking is that it has the largest cast of Trans actors of any scripted show in history. With the third season set to premiere later this year on FX, now is a great time to catch the first two seasons on Netflix or FX On Demand.

Euphoria – Taking a bit of a darker turn, is HBO’s Euphoria. Euphoria stars Zendaya as a former addict trying to navigate her recovery while still navigating the ins and outs of high school. But what makes this show stand out is Hunter Schafer. Schafer first made herself known when she, along with her father, fought the state of North Carolina over a state House bill requiring people to use public bathrooms that matched the gender on their birth certificates. An audition over Instagram later and Hunter’s role as Jules was locked in. Her performance is just simply amazing and heartbreaking. Check out season 1 on HBO.

Transparent – Even with the shows legacy has been tainted due to star Jeffery Tambor’s scandal, Transparent is a must see and an excellent show. The show revolves around a family in Los Angeles that discover their parent is a trans woman named Maura. Part comedy, part drama, the show was very well received by critics and viewers. You can see the entire series on Amazon Prime.

Now that we have some great TV shows to binge, we’d like to share a few movies and documentaries that we’ve discovered recently that we loved.

Boy Meets Girl – A Transgender Romantic Comedy isn’t a common description for a movie. Having an actual Trans girl in the starring role is just as uncommon. Starring Michelle Hendley as Ricky Jones, a trans woman living in a small town in Kentucky who wants to move to New York to study fashion. All that changes when she meets Francesca at the coffee shop Ricky works at. Boy Meets Girl really showcases the struggle to navigate love when gender and sexuality are front and center. It’s truly a fresh take on dating in today’s world. You can watch Boy Meets Girl on Amazon.

The Trans List – This HBO documentary focuses on eleven transgender Americans. These eleven individuals range from the well known like Caitlyn Jenner and Laverne Cox to some that you may not know. What they all share, is their stories in their own words. They recount their experiences for better or for worse and with their diverse backgrounds, makes for a very interesting documentary. The trans List is available through HBO and Amazon.

Beautiful Darling – Let’s end this list with something classic. Beautiful Darling is a documentary about the life of Candy Darling. Candy was a Trans girl who became famous as an “Andy Warhol Superstar” in the late ’60’s and early 70’s. Featuring Chloe Sevigny (as the voice of Candy), as she reads from her private diaries and letters, Beautiful Darling also uses archival footage to tell the story of her amazing life. You can watch this great documentary on Amazon Prime.
