When we are out as genetic males, we don’t think about carrying a lot of stuff with us. Our wallet, keys, and cell phone are usually all we need. But when we are out en femme, there are a lot more items that we should be carrying. Luckily we will be carrying a purse to hold all of our must-have items, but you might be asking yourself, what should I keep in my purse? Well, we’ve created this handy checklist for our girls so you can be sure to have these 13 essential crossdressing items in your purse that’ll have you ready for anything.
1. Compact Mirror
A compact mirror is a must-have in your purse as you will need something to check if you need a makeup touch-up or to make sure your wig/hair is on point. You can also go with a small makeup kit that has a mirror included that way you have your makeup colors with you for any of those touch-ups.
2. Band-Aids
Band-Aids are a must-have in your purse, especially if you are wearing heels or new shoes that haven’t been broken in yet. Just like genetic females that wear heels, pumps or sandals, the heel of your foot can get beat up, with the skin getting raw and needing immediate help. Your toes can suffer as well when they are in a tight pointy shoe. If your feet are new to women’s shoes, this is a very real issue you could face. So be prepared and keep some band-aids in your purse before your feet get too sore. Your feet will thank you later.
3. Cell Phone
When En Femme, you have to be prepared for some little differences from your genetic male self. Carrying a cell phone is definitely one of those differences. As men, we usually just carry our phones in our pockets. In girl mode, we may not have any pockets at all or they aren’t functional pockets to be carrying a cell phone. Many purses now days have pockets designed specifically to carry your cell phone, so this is an easy transition.
4. Bobby Pins
Bobby Pins are another must to keep your wig/hair in order. They will be your savior if your wig gets out of control. A handful of bobby pins will allow you to pin back any hair that is falling out of place throughout the night. They can also afford you the ability to change your hairstyle a little bit while you’re out.
5. Powder Blotting Paper
This is a really useful item if you are someone who sweats a lot or suffers from oily skin. If you are out in warm weather or live in an area where it’s a warm climate, then definitely be sure to have a few of these in your purse. Powder blotting paper is simple to use. Just blot the skin around the affected areas on your face. Not only will the paper absorb any excess moisture, but you will also be left with a little light coverage from the powder. The blotting paper packs are usually very compact so they will fit in even the smallest of purses.
6. Nail File
There is nothing worse than chipping a nail when out and about and not having a nail file on hand. If you’re growing your own nails, it really pays to have a nail file on hand. Even with false nails, there may be a need to file them down for one reason or another. If you are growing your own nails and one happens to chip or get a rough edge, the nail file is the way to go. A nail file will also help you resist the temptation of biting the nail down to remove the rough edges.
7. Lip Gloss
We want to make sure those lips are always on point when we are out. Having some lip gloss in your purse is a necessity. Whether it be eating or drinking or maybe even kissing, your lips will lose their luster as the day or night goes on. Pick your favorite color for the season and pop it in your purse for multiple touch-ups. And going back to your compact, this is another time when that will be useful.
8. Mints
No one likes smelly breath. A small pack of mints can go a long way in keeping your breath fresh while you’re out. Especially after some drinks or a meal, you will want to freshen that breath up. Gum is an alternative here as well. Either way, you should always have some kind of breath freshener on hand in your purse.
9. Light Body Spray/Perfume/Mini Deodorant
If you plan on being out for an extended period of time, it pays to have a small pocket-sized body spray on hand so if you feel the need, you can freshen up a bit. The small bottles are ideal for your purse and will come in handy for sure.
10. Tissues
Almost all women carry a small pack of tissues in their purse. It’s a staple item. Besides having them on hand to blow your nose, tissues are a great help when you need to blot your lipstick or lip gloss.
11. Some Form of ID
Whether you have an ID for your femme self or you just have your male ID, it is important to have something in case of any issues while out. Trust me, getting into a situation without any ID can be a lot worse than just showing your male ID.
12. Cash
Sometimes you wind up in a situation where you need actual cash and a credit or debit card won’t do. As common as ATMs are in this day and age, you can always find yourself somewhere where you cannot get some cash. A few 20s can go a long way if you’re in a pinch. So make sure to have some cash in hand before leaving for the night.
13. Sunglasses
You never know when a pair of sunnies will come in handy when you are out and about so if you pop a pair in your purse you are equipped to stay cool (and avoid excess squinting!) in sunny weather.
One last tip
We’ve spoken to many CD’s who have told me they will bring a few tampons or pads with them. You may ask “for what?” Well if you are in the ladies room, there is always the possibility that a Cis Girl may ask if you have one. If you do and share one with her, it is another way to help with upholding your appearance as a woman and maybe even a new friend.
We know this seems like a lot of stuff to put in your purse, but all of these items will take up a small footprint and are all worth having on hand. Whether you are out to dinner, at the clubs or just out shopping for the day, having these ten items in your purse will be a big help. One last thing, there are purses for men out there as well. Since they have become quite common, a men’s purse is a fun way to get some femme in your day to day life when you can’t dress. Oh yeah, there’s one more item you should make sure to include in your purse… A wallet! Have fun out there girls!
