For transgender girls and crossdressers a key area for helping with confidence in everyday life is the facial appearance. The face is what most people see the most when you enter a space and so there is a need to feel comfortable with what you are portraying. Feminization of the face will give you greater confidence and even better social acceptance. If you are transitioning to live 24/7 as a woman then you may well be considering transgender surgery which may well include:
- Rhinoplasty surgery to feminize the nose shape
- Brow & forehead reduction surgery to feminize the forehead/brow
- Cheek implants to feminize the cheeks
- Lip Augmentation to feminize the lips
Effective non-surgical Steps to Feminize a Male Face:
If you are an occasional crossdresser or a transgender girl without the financial means for surgical enhancements what are the most effective solutions to feminize the male face?
Shape and Lift the Brows:
At the simplest you can use an eye pencil to extend the arch of the male brow on the top to appear more female shaped. The area to do this is usually ⅓ of the way in from the outside of the brow. Carefully extend that part of the upper brow only to create more of a female arch. There are also eyebrow stencil kits that you can use to do this if your free-hand makeup skills are not yet honed to perfection. To enhance the effect even further, use a light concealer or contour underneath the lower brow from the point of the apex you have created to the outer edge of the brow. Eye/Facelift Tape Technique:
The advanced class on Brow shaping is using a wig cap and tape, strategically placed to exaggerate the brow arch. This is done by taping from above the eyebrow up to the wig cap and so lifting and holding the eyebrow in a more female arched position. An added bonus is you can also tape from behind the ears back to the wig cap to give the effect of a ‘face-lift’ for a more youthful and female facial appearance.
Use a Wig with Bangs:
A male forehead is typically much bigger than a females, both in height and width and it typically has a much more prominent bony brow running across it. When surgical intervention is not desired or possible the easiest fix is to use a wig with good bangs which hide the size of the male brow and its prominence.
Make Lashes long and thicker:
The quickest fix for feminizing lashes is to take an eyelash curler (available for a few bucks from any drugstore)to curl lashes and then apply mascara. The best method for applying mascara is to curl upwards on the top row and fan out the lashes at the same time (curl downwards on the bottom lashes). This increases the volume and length of the lashes and so gives the appearance of larger eyes which are much more feminine than regular male eyes. The dark mascara also helps to give a more youthful appearance to the face. An alternative hack is just to apply false eyelashes which is quicker to do.
Contouring for the Nose:
Contouring is a feminizing makeup technique whereby we use lighter or darker cosmetics (typically foundation or concealer) to create light and shadow in order to change the shape of certain facial features. A female nose is typically narrower and shorter than a male nose. Applying a light concealer or contour powder down the center of the nose with a darker shade either side of the single light shade will make the nose narrower. The closer the narrower lines the narrower the nose appears but remember to be realistic and make it narrower. Be sure to blend in the lines for a natural appearance. Shortening the length of the nose can also be accomplished by contouring.
Blush for a more feminine appearance:
The application of blush, not only makes the face appear more healthy and youthful but used correctly and it will help feminize the facial shape. Attempt to create a soft and rounder shape by applying the blush lightly with round circular motions of a good quality blush brush.
Transforming male lips into a more female shape:
Male lips tend to be narrower and less full than luscious female lips. So, what’s a girl to do to enhance her sexy ‘pout’ without resorting to surgical enhancement? There are a number of lip-enhancement tips you can use as part of your makeover but perhaps the easiest to apply and most effective is making your lips larger by using a lip-liner pencil to extend the edge of the lips and then filling in with a good quality lipstick. This simple trick will automatically give you a more feminine look.
Tips for feminizing the male skin:
A regular skin care regimen including cleansing and moisturising is recommended. However, for crossdressers leading a secret double-life this may be hard to do. Before applying makeup, use a good quality primer to smooth the skin’s surface and fill in the larger male pores. The last step of your makeover should be the application of powder. This again will give a smoother appearance and help your whole makeover stay in place.
