REMOVING FACIAL HAIR
Facial hair can be a challenge for many gurls when considering make-up application. Aside from the preparation time and the cost involved, consideration as to what look is being attempted is very important. An evening Glamour look usually requires a heavier makeover and so helps mask unwanted or emabarrasing facial hair residue whereas a passable daytime look requires a much lighter application and touch for the makeover which makes masking stubborn facial hair more difficult.
Our resident makeover artist, Rana believes the traditional wet-shave method to be the most common method for stubborn facial hair removal but more and more gurls are experimenting with the latest methods too. What is the best method of hair removal?
The following seem to be the most widely used at present:
- Traditional Wet Shave
- Hair Removal Creams
- Laser Removal
- Electrolysis
- Waxing
From feedback we hear that laser and electrolysis seem to me the most proficient and permanent methods for facial hair removal though they are by far the most expensive. Hair removal creams and potions are used by some but care should always be taken as even herbal creams have been known to burn the delicate skin of the face. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully and be sure to test on a small are of skin before application
We have heard of wax being used on areas around the chin and for the top lip of gurls with particularly stubborn growth but again, we don't recommend this unless applied by a professional as burning can occur very easily on delicate facial skin. However it is a more affordable option to electrolysis and laser and certainly less painful than plucking, a method not recommended other than for eyebrows and nasal hair.
MOST AFFORDABLE HAIR REMOVAL. The wet shave seems to be the ideal compromise for most gurls, however as with most areas of the makeover, technique is all important to gain the most from your hair removal. The following ensures the closest of shaves everytime:
1. Bathe or shower first to allow the facial skin pores to open and the hair follicles to soften
2. Wash the area to be wet shaved thoroughly
3. Apply a good quality shaving foam and ensure you massage as you apply to soften the hair follicles further
4. Always use a clean, sharp razor with at least 2 blades and soak in a hot bowl of water prior to use
5. Shaving WITH the grain, remove the hair/stubble from the immediate area ensuring you cleanse the blade in hot water between each stroke
6. Apply shaving foam to the stubborn areas a second time and this time shave AGAINST the grain to ensure a really close shave
7. Rinse off in cool water and allow skin to 'rest' prior to make-up application
Follow these simple steps and you will be assured of as close a shave as possible and thus helping minimize the amount of beard concealer and foundation you may have to use when dressing up.
