HELPFUL TIPS for the use of ARTIFICIAL NAILS

Here are some of our USER SUBMITTED TIPS for more helpful suggestions!

PREPARATION

Carefully clean under the nail tip, using caution so as not to split the nail. If that should happen, remove the damaged portion of the nail before proceeding. Using an orange stick, open the cuticle to remove any foreign matter and to allow a recessed area for the placement of your new nails. Use dishwashing detergent to presoak stubbon cuticles. Clean the entire surface of your nail.

APPLICATION
Having already selected the appropriate artificial nail (AN) for a particular finger, apply a small bead of nail glue across the upper portion of the nail. This will allow you to get under the back portion easier to lift the nail when you are ready to take them off.

If your natural nail is wider than the AN, apply the bead to nearly the edge of the cuticle and when you affix the AN, press the sides of the finger toward the nail so as to fold the cuticle onto the sides of the AN. This will give the appearance of a smaller nail, hence a smaller hand.

Place the AN slightly under the cuticle and apply soft pressure to the glued area. Be careful not to apply pressure to the lower end of the AN. This could cause the AN to split should your natural nail base be flatter than the manufacured curve of the AN. In every case, handle the AN carefully during application so as not to get glue on any area other than where it is intended to be.

REPAIR
Should you split an AN, it can be repaired by completely removing it and using nail glue to correct the damaged area. Allow ample time for the glue to dry before handling.

APPLYING POLISH
Apply a single coat of clear base coat polish.
Apply two (2) coats of colored polish.
Finish with another coat of clear base polish.
Always allow ample drying time between coats of polish.

WEARING THE NAILS

Artificial nail manufacturers recommend not leaving AN's on for more than 48 hours at a time. It is suggested that you do not exceed that recommendation. Your natural nails need time to breathe.
In most instances AN's can be re-used a number of times.

REMOVING ARTIFICIAL NAILS

The best way to remove the AN is to place the beveled end of an orange stick under its lower corner and apply an upward pressure. Removal of the AN on the thumb may require using the orange stick to breach both sides in order to loosen it.

Remember, glued-on nails can seriously damage your natural nails if proper care is not used.

CAUTION
Not all nail glues work with every brand of AN's. You may find it more convenient to buy the same brand of glue as are your AN's.
As a final note, FOLLOW THE MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING USE OF NAIL GLUE.

MORE TIPS from CUSTOMERS! - THANK YOU for your SUGGESTIONS!

I was just looking at your web site and in particular at the method for glueing artificial nails. The information is complete and clearly presented.

There is one detail regarding gluing artificial nails you may be interested in. Prior to attaching the artificial nails, place a light coat of white glue in the nail surface and allow it to dry. Then apply the artificial nails as described in your information.

The idea of applying white glue (Elmer's for example) is that the artificial nails may be easily removed and the fingernails likewise easily cleaned thereafter due to the nature of the white glue.

Thanks for the nice web site.

Sue
