  CHOOSING THE RIGHT HOSIERY

Pantyhose, stockings and stay-ups are a must have for most gurl’s wardrobes but the variety of colors, types, styles and shades can be overwhelming to even the most experienced shopper. Always consider where and when you will be wearing hosiery – are you going out in the day or are you looking for a pair to flatter in the evening? Do you like a splash of color or do you need to play it safe and stick to a darker opaque shade for a leaner look? And how to choose between stay-ups, garter-up stockings or pantyhose - where does a girl begin?

Here at GlamourBoutique.com stockings and thigh-hi’s or stay-ups are becoming more and more popular particularly with wearer’s of corsets, girdles and traditional garter-belts. But pantyhose still very much has a place in most gurl’s hosiery draw whther it’s opaque tights for concealment or support pantyhose to help eliminate some of that bulge.

When shopping for hosiery it’s easy to become dazzled by the choice on offer and the various claims made by the manufacturers. So what does it all mean and what does a gurl need to know before filling her shopping basket?

When scouring the internet or shopping at the local pharmacy it’s important to know the different types of hosiery on offer so you match to your chosen need or occasion:
  • Opaque – generally a girl’s best friend when some form of concealment from blemishes or hair is required – with a lycra mix opaque’s are available as a dancer’s tight and as well as masking ability they give excellent shape to the leg
  • Ultra sheer made of the thinnest fibres (10/15/20 DEN) and generally used for special occasions. Will show up any blemish if worn on their own and need to be handled very carefully
  • Shimmer – recommended for evening wear as they are extremely flattering to the leg shape when they catch the light
  • Day Sheer – Still sheer but more durable than ultrasheer – these will generally have a longer life and do not need handling as carefully
Other terminology you will see includes 'Control Top' in the case of pantyhose that helps slim the thighs and waist, 'Support Tights', 'Theraputic Support Pantyhose', 'Weight Lose Hosiery' and 'Crotchless Pantyhose or Tights'.

The term DEN as mentioned refers to the fiber thickness or density. Sheer hosiery tends to be 5 to 15 Den with Translucent and Opaque generally being up to 30 Den. Also, as a rule of thumb, the more sheer the hosiery means the more easily they tend to be damaged i.e. they are less hard-wearing.

How to extend the life of your hosiery:

1. Always buy the right size – don’t be tempted to choose a smaller, tighter size
2. Take off jewelry before putting on hosiery
3. Trim finger and toe nails beforehand
4. Read the manufacturers guidelines before washing

Hosiery is a simple and relatively cheap method of feminization and many folk love the sensual feel of stockings. Pantyhose and stay-ups or stockings should always enhance how you look and feel so follow the simple tips above and you’ll make the most of your purchase and how you feel about your legs. But to finish here are a few no-no’s when it comes to wearing hosiery: a) Don’t wear sheer with hairy legs it spoils the illusion – better to go with an opaque, b) Don’t wear hosiery with noticeable runs or ladders in them c) Do not wear with visible panty lines as again it spoils the illusion of smooth and curvaceous feminine lines and d) Never wear Thigh-hi’s too tight around the thigh as they look very unsightly.

Choose the right hosiery and you will enhance the look of your legs and your total image. The right combination of color and density of the fabric will make a gurl feel very sexy, indeed many find it a real confidence booster particularly when paired with a stylish set of heels. If you’ve never tried, what are you waiting for – grab a pair and a slip them - it’ll make your day, or night?
